🥋harenokuni Karate-Do — Okayama, Japan
The Way of Karate for Body, Mind, and Spirit
Shorinji-Ryu Karate-Do is rooted in the traditional martial arts of Okinawa and the legacy of Kyan Chotoku. It embodies the virtues of respect, discipline, and dynamic technique — including the decisive power of a single, focused strike. Weapons training and formal etiquette are also integral to its practice.
At its heart, this art is a path to personal and spiritual development.
🌱 Rediscovering Health and Inner Richness
In today’s fast-paced, material-driven society, many people suffer from a lack of physical activity and a disconnect from their inner selves. As we chase economic prosperity, we risk losing the richness of mind and the courage to live independently.
Karate offers a way to restore balance. Through daily practice, we can regain our health, cultivate mental clarity, and reconnect with the values that truly matter.
🏯 The Legacy of Shorinji-Ryu
Karate originated in Okinawa as a form of self-defense during a time when weapons were prohibited. It was passed down secretly — from master to disciple, or father to son — and was considered a martial art for the virtuous.
Shorinji-Ryu is sometimes called the “secrets of Nankai” (the southern sea), reflecting its deep roots and spiritual depth.
In Okayama, we continue this tradition through direct, personal instruction. There are no textbooks or videos. The teachings live through the body, the breath, and the spirit — shared from teacher to student in the dojo.
